about the project

being a fat queer person comes with its share of difficulties and insecurities, from being underrepresented in media, to thinking you might not be ever be sexually desirable. fat bodies are never portrayed as attractive or appealing, and what is conventionally so is rooted in outdated and oftentimes toxic beauty standards.

for our part of the "op de hoek" exhibition, held at time is the new space on july 15th, my partner and i decided to create a series of photos which would be a celebration of our growing self-confidence, mutual trust and love. dimis photographed me in order to capture me in a way i'd not seen myself before: sexually attractive; by doing so, he allowed me to see myself from an outer, loving perspective.

being the subject of a nude photoshoot was incredibly new to me, and required a lot of trust in dimis. we decided to shoot the photographs in our home, as that is the place where our love blooms. to further drive this point home, i decided to explore the anthotype printing technique - sun printing using plant pigments -, with materials found within our space.

the result was a small gallery of photos which marked an important milestone in our journeys, both individually and as a couple.
